OVERVIEW
The history of this watch traces back to 1830 when brothers Louis Victor and Célestin Baume founded "Frères Baume" in Les Bois, Jura. The brand expanded internationally, establishing "Baume Brothers" with a branch in London by 1851. In 1918, William Baume partnered with Paul Mercier to create "Baume et Mercier," specializing in unconventional watches that diverged from the traditional round shape, exemplified by this unique 1940s Ultra Prima model. This model features a yellow gold case with rectangular pushers and a stunning two-register black dial with a minute totalizer at 3 o'clock and a central seconds at 9 o'clock. This exclusive Baume et Mercier watch represents a blend of complexity and aesthetics, making it a distinctive addition to any collection of unusual vintage chronographs.
Discover the extraordinarily rare Baume et Mercier chronograph, the Ultra Prima model from the 1950s, featuring an 18-carat rose gold square case measuring 27 x 27 mm. This elegant timepiece boasts a black dial equipped with a tachymetric scale, a central spiral, and a railway minute track, enhancing its sporty yet sophisticated appearance. It operates on a manually wound mechanical movement, the Valjoux 69 caliber, renowned as the smallest chronograph mechanism of its time.
The watch is in excellent condition and was recently serviced.
